Creality CR-10 Smart is an affordable FDM 3D printer from Creality, a veteran Chinese manufacturer of low-budget machines. CR-10 Smart utilizes a classic and simple frame design with a sprinkle of handy functions like remote control and better bed leveling. The print volume of 300 x 300 x 400 mm allows for diverse and impressive projects.
Creality CR-10 Smart can be shortly described as an improved and a bit more fashionable version of a beloved CR-10. Not a race car per se, however, with more thoughtful details here and there and definitely a lot more serious looking.
Design-wise the printer looks very similar to one of Creality’s best sellers, though, this version comes with diagonal drawbars for a bit more sturdiness in the frame. This machine also has two Z-axis rods connected with a belt at the top for synchrony. The bottom module with all the hardware not only makes the printer more compact but also creates a sturdier base for the CR-10 Smart to stand on with less wobbling. The printing bed is also better supported with wider Y-axis rails equipped with a more comfortable tension knob. The X-axis has a belt tension knob as well.
The machine stands on soft rubber legs with all the cables hidden accurately with the small exception being the print head cables dragging a bit (though easily fixable with zip ties). Additionally, CR-10 Smart has a toolbox under the printing bed that is held with a magnet. Printing head has an illuminating light. Not the brightest one but decent enough to see the plate.
The machine utilizes a Bowden-style extruder with a silicone case and a plastic enclosure. Despite being hidden, it is easy to access if needed.
Creality CR-10 Smart comes with silent mainboard drivers TMC2208 and a 24V power supply. These quiet drivers help to reduce noise during printing, so practically the main noise source from the printer are cooling fans. Cable management on this machine is sleek and clean, all the wiring sits at the bottom of the printer neatly tied.
CR10 Smart has auto bed-leveling through 16 points. It doesn’t require any manual assistance, moreover, the printer doesn’t have any screws you can tighter for the print bed. This feature is nice, though, has a risk of being without a printer for some time in case the leveling malfunctions. This version is also equipped with a filament sensor for detecting outage or breakage.
CR-10 Smart comes with Creality’s textured glass plate, which is easy to remove from the bed after printing. The printer also has a spool holder, though, it is a bit flimsy.
